The Spirit of the Lungs

In the Chinese Five Element system, each of the Yin organs has a Spirit with different implications, gifts, and resonances. The Lungs move with the Spirit called Po, a formless, transcendental being that exists with us for one lifetime, entering at birth and dissolving at death, and so bookmarking our earth experience.

The Po guides our discernment and helps us recognize right from wrong, truth from fiction, and pure from impure, such is Po’s mettle. While shy and ephemeral, Po will rise gently called and can be observed as one might appreciate the mist that surrounds the top of a great mountain.

This practice includes a sequence of lung pounding, which is a little left of field, and a winding version of Viloma (interrupted) breathing that together leads us to the pinnacle where Po can be seen, known, and appreciated.
