Navigating Spring's Growth and Change

Seasonal Yoga and the Wood Element

Overcoming Limitations for Growth

In nature, limitations are the breaking ground that allows for strengths and diversity to evolve - a seed that must first break its shell, then effort through soil and rock to reach the light is the timeless metaphor for what it means to "effort". The conversation with limitation forms a big part of our personal growth over these next emerging months, balancing the boundaries of possibilities against our relationship with the world around us, while honouring the restrictions and roadblocks that will make up our own map of transformation.

Adapting to Change: Lessons from the Wood Element

In these new and fluid times change has become the new normal. We are at one moment the wanderer, disconnecting from the known, moving beyond the limitations of rational thought, then called back to lucid communication, and to navigation between the agreements and responsibilities that make up our daily work.

Something runs out, an unwanted change is thrust upon you, someone says no, or you suddenly have to make do with less. Ultimately the Wood element teaches us that there is a reason for it all. One must step back in order to acknowledge how the limitation offered is a guidepost to a more prosperous future. As a tree might find last season's available light now suddenly obscured, it must adapt and grow in another direction, or wither in its effort to maintain its original course. Having to stop to establish structures, priorities, goals, agreements or a newly thought-out plan of action is how the Wood element evolves, regenerates and rebirths all in its influence.

From Winter's Wisdom to Spring's Transformation

When we adapt to another’s point of view or a changing circumstance we are acting from the trust and Self-belief we cultivated in the Winter season. Our intelligence grows as we apply winter’s lessons and we see how harmony exists in all discord - that our discomfort is simply an imbalance calling to be addressed. Spring invites you to change your perspective, instead of approaching obstacles and change as limitations or punishment, see them as the springboard you've been asking for, and let them lead you to discovery, innovation and evolution.
