Year of the Water Rabbit

Chinese New Year Part 2

Greetings as the year turns from Tiger to Rabbit, the fourth animal in the Chinese zodiac and the one known for its charm, elegance, and diplomacy. It's a year of peace and stability and negotiation, a good year for settling disputes and finding common ground with others, and for financial investments and new businesses.

It is also a year of swift change, hypervigilance, endings, beginnings, and lightning strikes.

Rabbits are known to be incredibly witty, outgoing, well-spoken, creative, empathetic, thoughtful, and meditative. They are also cautious and prone to fretting and over-worry, a tendency that leans into the fear inherent in the Water element that accompanies 2023. If we can overcome the displacement of the powerful and electric Uranian energies being delivered to us, then the Water Rabbit year will be healing, introspective, peaceful, and hope-filled.

It’s a season to cultivate your imagination, intuition, and instincts. Think artistic inspirations, hobbies, crafts, poetry, painting, making music—any activity that brings inner harmony is aligned with the Rabbit energy.

Rabbit has several burrows, just in case, and this year we can use Rabbit's medicine by developing multiple backup plans in case of surprises and switch-ups, diving eagles, or wandering foxes.  Just as Rabbit is cautious and careful it will be wise to assess and read a situation before leaping out into its open field. However, once it is safe to go, Rabbit may bring exciting plans to a head in lightening fast time.

Most interesting is an ancient prophecy from the book of the Tang Dynasty “Pushing Back Pictures” predicting there will be big changes when the “Black Rabbit enters the Green Dragon’s Den”. 2023 is a Yin Water Rabbit year, also called the Black Rabbit, and 2024 is the wood dragon year, also known as the Green Dragon. That being said it is predicted that significant change is highly likely between 2023 and 2024.  Adding to that, a firey conflict between the horse and goat years of 2026 and 2027 could mean we are in for a time of long-running global change.

But, these are exciting, rousing, and fast-moving times, we are born of this, and we belong here wholeheartedly. Our work, as students on this path, is to uplift, inspire, create and bring the highest frequency forward in every situation we encounter. This summer I have taken to tuning to the cicadas in the tree outside my window and lifting my frequency to meet theirs as they sing to each other in a full-bodied chorus.

Find a way to be your best Self; a practice, a mantra, a prayer.

No matter what the year, the prediction, or the current circumstances you may find yourself in, hold the vision of a wonderful future where equality, humanity, and peace are our pillars, and live into that.

After all, that is what Rabbit would do.
